Julia Bell is the Founder and Principal Partner of Parapluie. She has over twenty five years of experience within the international art world as an art advisor, appraiser, curator, lecturer, consultant and art market commentator. She has extensive knowledge of modern, post-war, and contemporary art markets, from emerging to blue-chip artists.
Julia’s extensive international connections span museums, galleries; artist foundations, art fairs, auction houses and collectors which she utilises to ensure clients get the best access to international art market contacts. Prior to founding Parapluie in 2017, Julia had a twenty year career within public institutions in the UK managing modern and contemporary fine and decorative art collections; developing national and international gallery partnerships and implementing cultural strategy.
She also worked as an independent curator, public art commissioner and strategic advisor to museums and galleries. She has over ten years of Board experience. Julia received her Master’s in Museum and Gallery studies from Newcastle University and graduated from Northumbria University with a BA (hons) in Design studies. She has postgraduate diplomas in Art Profession, Law and Ethics and also Law and Collection Management, both from the Institute of Art and Law. She is a member of ICOM and the UK registrars group and an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers with a specialism in Fine Art Appraisals. She also holds USPAP qualified credentials.
